| Withdrawal of the Acemo Saleen in GT 1. Raymond Narac’s Porsche joins the GT 2 category

After the withdrawal of the Nasamax replaced by the T2M MOTORSPORT entry,
the American Team ACEMO MOTORSPORT, which had confirmed its automatic selection
thanks to its GTS title in the 2004 ALMS, has also withdrawn its Saleen
and will not attend the Test Day on 5th June.
The only car left on the reserve list is the Dutch Spyker C8 Spyder
as neither the Graham Nash Motorsport Saleen nor Thierry Perrier’s Porsche
911 GT3 have been confirmed on the list.
In addition to that information, please note the Test Day timetable
for 5th June 2005 has been modified and it now runs from 9.00 am – 1.00
pm and 2.00 pm – 7.00 pm instead of 9.00 am – 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm – 6.00
pm following requests from the teams which want more track time. However,
this extension still needs prefectoral agreement.

Après le forfait du team Nasamax, qui avait fait le bonheur
de T2M MOTORSPORT, c’est à la Saleen du team américain ACEMCO
MOTORSPORTS de décliner son invitation à participer à
la Journée Test des « 24 Heures du Mans » 2005 ; celle-ci
avait pourtant confirmé sa sélection d’office, acquise grâce
à son titre ALMS 2004, catégorie GTS.
Par ailleurs, la seule voiture à demeurer dans la liste des voitures
de réserve est la Spyker C8 Spyder du constructeur néerlandais,
la Saleen de Graham Nash Motorsport et la Porsche 911 GT3 de Thierry Perrier
n’ayant pas non plus confirmé leur engagement dans cette liste des
réservistes.
En ce qui concerne la Journée Test du 5 juin 2005, l’horaire
prévisionnel devrait être étendu de 9 h – 13 h et 14
h – 18 h, à 9 h – 13 h et 14 h – 19 h ; et ce à la demande
des concurrents qui souhaitaient bénéficier d’un temps supplémentaire
d’essai en piste. Mais cette extension demeure encore aujourd’hui soumise
à approbation préfectorale.

Halfway through January fifteen teams had already been accepted according to the pre-selection criteria that took into account their 2004 results (*). The Selection Committee now has the tough job of studying the additional entry forms and then announce the complete field. It will meet at the end of February to draw up a provisional list after which it will inspect the new models like Lola in LM P2 and Aston Martin in GT 1 that will appear at the opening round of the ALMS, the Sebring 12-Hour race on 19th March, The official list of the 50 cars selected for the Test Day on 5th June and the race on 18th and 19th June will then be published at the end of March. Eight reserves (2 more than in 2004) will also be designated and they will know their fate by 27th May 2005 at the latest.
Last year the prototypes dominated (40 LM P1s and P2s as against 37 GTSs and GTs) and this year the tendency has been inversed: 19 LM P1s and 18 LM P2s – 37 protos - and 41 Grand Touring cars made up of 15 GT 1s and 26 GT 2s.
Even before the official list is announced, the prospect of hard-fought duels in all categories is enough to make the enthusiast’s blood race. How many Pescarolos will take the fight to the French Audi entered by Oreca to challenge the two Champion R8s from the USA ? How many Courages will be out to defend the local make’s colours against the assault of the Lolas in LM P2? Will Aston Martin be able to mix it with the Ferraris and Corvettes in GT 1? Will the White Lightning Porsche continue to dominate GT 2 ? First response on paper at the end of March and the final answer on the track in mid-June!.

15 concurrents ayant déjà été désignés par la nouvelle procédure des « sélectionnés d’office au titre de leurs résultats 2004 (*). A la mi-janvier, le Comité de sélection va donc avoir la lourde tâche d’examiner les dossiers complémentaires et de se prononcer, en vue de compléter le plateau. Dans cette optique, il se réunira fin février pour arrêter une première liste provisoire, dans l’attente de découvrir les nouveaux modèles (Lola en LM P2 ou Aston Martin en GT 1, par exemple) à Sebring, le 19 mars, pour l’ouverture de la saison ALMS.
Fin mars sera donc communiquée la liste officielle des 50 voitures sélectionnées pour la « Journée test » du 5 juin, et la course officielle des 18 et 19 juin. A ces 50 heureux élus s’ajouteront 8 suppléants (2 de plus qu’en 2004), qui pourront être maintenus dans ce statut « d’attente » jusqu’au 27 mai 2005, dernier délai.
Contrairement à l’an passé, où la demande des Prototypes dominait légèrement (40 LM P1 et P2, contre 37 GTS et GT), la tendance s’est inversée : 19 LM P1 et 18 LM P2, soit 37 « Protos », ont effectué une demande de participation, contre 41 « Grand Tourisme » (15 GT 1 et 26 GT 2).
En attendant de déguster la liste définitive des engagés, on peut déjà saliver sur les grands duels attendus dans toutes les catégories : combien de Pescarolo pourront-elles arbitrer le grand défi qu’Audi-France (Oreca) a lancé à Audi-USA (Champion) ? Combien de Courage pour partir à l’assaut des Lola en LM P2 ? Aston - Martin sera-t-il bien le trublion attendu pour participer à la lutte entre Corvette et Ferrari en GT 1 ? La Porsche de White Lightning va-t-elle ré-imposer sa domination en GT 2 ? Début de réponse fin mars… sur le papier. Et mi-juin sur le bitume.
